Lent

Lent is the 40 day period before Easter, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends before the Holy Thursday Mass. (Holy Thursday,Good Friday and Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil) are known as the "Easter Triduum".)

The Lenten season is an opportunity for the Catholic Christian to renew their baptismal commitment through a process of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  It also serves as a time of discernment for those who are preparing to be baptized through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.).

Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God.”  (Joel 2:12-13)
